On its Tenth Anniversary: WIPO Academy Commends its Cooperation with TAG-Org

AMMAN --- December 4, 2008 --- On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Worldwide Academy, a special 134-page publication referring to the Academy’s “Decade of Excellence: Decade of Achievement” was issued.

This edition includes comprehensive information on the Academy’s programs, accomplishments and activities during the last ten years.

Moreover, the Academy devoted a special section of this publication to agreements and prospective of cooperation with institutions and organizations mentioning in particular the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh College of Business (TAG-College), the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) and the Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP).

According to this publication, the cooperation between the WIPO Academy and AGIP offices started when Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, TAG-Org chairman and CEO, mandated members of staff to take the Academy’s distance learning (DL) courses as part of their career development.

These courses are recognized as qualifying courses for in-house training and career development. The TAG-Org meets the cost of participation in the course. To date, some 198 employees have taken the Academy’s advanced DL courses.

Moreover, the publication sheds light on future collaboration that has been extended to other branches of the Organization including ASIP. In this respect, the Academy and ASIP intend to offer other types of programs jointly for the benefit of Arab-speaking countries in the region.

Discussions are currently under way for the offering of a Master of Intellectual Property in Business with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh College of Business. Plans are also under discussion for the joint organization of Executive Programs, in collaboration with ASIP, the organization of a WIPO Summer School on Intellectual Property for the benefit of participants in the region.

It is worth noting that the Academy’s Dean Dr. Mpazi Sinjela and the Officer in Charge for distance learning program Ms. Altaye Tedla visited the headquarters of TAG-Org, ASIP and TAG-College and were briefed on the facilities, activities and programs at each institution.

TAG-Org and ASIP enjoy close cooperation with WIPO with the aim of developing capacities and enhancing knowledge and understanding of this vital sector in the Arab region.
