Amman - The Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP), in cooperation with the Licensing Executives Society - Arab Countries, organized a workshop on “Technology Transfer in Jordan”, which was hosted by the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum. The workshop comes in response to the instructions of the Chairman of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) and the Licensing Executives Society, HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh who always stresses the importance of keeping up with developments in technology and knowledge, as this shall be the main source of wealth and income for countries. The workshop was opened by Ms. Majd Khaddash, manager of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) and Licensing Executives Society. Ms. Khaddash pointed out that the workshop comes as a part of the EU-funded BITTCOIN-JO project, to discuss the status of technology transfer in Jordan with subject-matter experts in this field who have worked on previous projects with the aim of working on improving and completing such projects. Dr. Mohammed Al-Jafari, the Executive Director of the Intellectual Property Commercialization Office (IPCO), reviewed the status of technology transfer offices in Jordan based on previous technology transfer projects. Moreover, Mr. Al-Jafari emphasized the importance of technology transfer offices and the importance of having a structural construction for such offices, highlighting the possibility of gaining profits from these offices, the thing that will be beneficial for both the university and researchers, and accordingly, will affect the national economy. During the workshop, the participants made a number of recommendations, most notably, selecting appropriate training topics for BITTCOIN-JO beneficiaries, developing a plan for connecting the industry to universities in order to benefit technology transfer offices and to promote national industry, building on what has been achieved so far. It is worth mentioning that the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) was founded in Munich, Germany in 1987 for several objectives, as the Society’s objectives specifically focus on developing and enhancing the intellectual property protection system. The Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) aims to do so through mainstreaming public awareness and education on intellectual property and emphasizing their influential role in globalization, development and establishment of effective mechanisms to support the protection of intellectual property rights internationally using appropriate methods promote compatibility between regional and international laws.
